I was totally aware that I was an immigrant when I came to the US as a young adult. I had my green card and always checked "permanent resident" on an form I had to fill. Time passed and I became a US citizen and the paperwork became easier. Here I am taking courses in Distance Education and discovering that I am again an immigrant: A digital immigrant no less!
Will I ever be a native of somewhere or something? I guess that is the price to pay for being a citizen of the world and a learner!

I am also an immigrant, now citizen, so this post and the idea of Digital immigrant is funny, yet interesting. Maybe we will never become natives, thanks to the welcoming changes in DE.

I notice in your profile that your favorite musicis reggae, what is your background/country of birth and what it is abut reggae that you like, I ask as I was born in Jamaica and migrated to the US at age 15.

I enjoyed the tone of your post immensely! It's something I really find helpful with the blogging tool... it allows us to be a little more informal and in doing so, allows us to get to know one another in another way.

Because I teach high school, I always try to give a less formal twist to some of the most complicated subject. I think students feel reassured and learn better that way.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed the very academic side of our studies, but I must say that I always smile a little when some of the reading gets too obscure and stop talking to the lay reader.
I had a wonderful professor years ago when I worked on my Master - He was and is quite well known in his field and could have created a cloud of knowledge around him, but is motto was " whatever you know or achieve in life , never take yourself seriously" I have never forgotten his words. His name is Henry Louis Gates Jr, and he is a well know figure in Afro-American Literary Criticism.
To answer your question, I am enjoying my classes a lot, and the best part of them is to weave my new knowledge within my own.
I also want to thank you Tiffany for taking on my blog, I did nor want to miss on the opportunity of blogging with someone. I knew I would miss out. So thank you again.
